Happy Spring!!! I recently returned from Utah, just outside Zion National Park, where I hosted a workshop (that was held in conjunction with the folks at the Triple “D” Game Farm) with a tremendous group of students. As spring is the time of year when a lot of animals have their youngsters, we had the good fortune of photographing…

Although much of September was rainy and cool, our more typical sunny and warm fall weather has returned. I just finished conducting my Wildlife Intensive Weekend Workshop here in Edmonton with twelve great people. They all seemed to really enjoy themselves.

On Sunday, we took a field trip to photograph some Prairie Dogs at the world’s most northern Prairie Dog town and we visited a local falconer who allowed us to photograph a number of his beautiful birds. My students all came away with some tremendous images and I am proud of their accomplishments. I hope to offer this workshop again this coming…

September has returned all the daytime wanderers (school folks, their parents, folks on holidays, etc.) to their regular routines and my errands today took half the time they did during the summer. It was the beginning of August when I noticed the first leaves starting to turn colour here in Edmonton, and while the full fall colour season is still probably a few weeks away, the trees seem well aware that winter is on its way.

The winter that would never end; that’s how I’ll remember this spring. While we have occasional days of “normal” temperatures, we have had a very cold spring. For instance, as I write this, the temperature is hovering around freezing and the forecast is calling for up to 5cm (2 inches) of snow by tomorrow. But, I long ago learned that my whining has no influence on the weather and I’m hopeful that the weather for my upcoming…

It is a chilly day here in central Alberta. We woke up to -15 degrees celsius (5 degrees Fahrenheit) and a brisk wind. We also had our first skiff of snow the other day. Why is is that everyone forgets their winter driving skills until after the first day of tricky driving conditions?

I just sent out an email update for December. I sent one out in October too. Don’t ask me what the heck happened in November. This update features some more spring wildlife from the Alberta prairie. Specifically, I focus on a Sora and a pair of Red-necked Grebes.

Here’s one the images from the email update. Check it out if you’re interested and consider subscribing. It’s free after all.

I have been extremely negligent in not updating my email newsletter more frequently. I can’t go back and time and fix that but I’ll recommit myself to being more consistent in my monthly updates.

Fall is well underway in central Alberta. We’ve even seen a little snow flying here and there although thankfully, none has decided to stick around so far. The geese and swans are moving through in tremendous numbers, a sure sign that winter is quickly approaching.
